Customized Solutions for Specialized Needs

If the optimal solution for your application is not among our standard models, Aerometrics' engineers will custom design a system for you. The proper measurement system solution will yield high quality data while simplifying setup and usage. It should also satisfy short term needs while being able to adapt to accommodate long term goals.

The company has designed equipment for many different measurement conditions including underwater and airborne studies, combustive, freezing and corrosive environments. Often a solution that has been designed for a specific application is useful in other environments. The following specialized systems are now available as standard options:

Miniprobes

Originally designed for a customer requiring quality control for a manufacturing process, the Aerometrics created fiber optic probes only 5.1 millimeters in diameter. The probes were designed to monitor up to 12 stations with the signals from each station being multiplexed to a single signal processing and data acquisition unit.

Telescopic Receivers

Aerometrics has developed many receivers for special applications. A 355mm clear aperture, 2000mm focal length receiver was designed for cloud droplet measurements in large wind tunnels. It was used for aircraft icing research. Other large receivers of up to 700mm in diameter are available.

The Microsizer

As a turn-key, portable PDPA system, the Microsizer is ideal for characterizing flows with small spray cones. It was designed for a process control application involving metered dose inhalers that are used for drug deposition into the human body. The Microsizer is highly compact and extremely easy to use. It is factory aligned, portable, and requires no realignment.

Airborne Icing Probe

Special probes have been designed for mounting to aircraft for in-flight icing, cloud and airborne droplet studies. The Airborne Droplet Analyzer has special heating mechanisms to ensure accurate operation under freezing and subfreezing conditions.

Submersible Probes

The company has developed several probes for submersed conditions. A 2-component fiber optic LDV probe was built for underwater operation during towing tank studies. The water-proof probe was tested to a submerged depth of 10m. Another water-tight 25mm clear aperture probe was built for measurement of oil droplets in water.
